2001 World Taiji Day Central Park

This is one of the earliest World Taiji Day events in Central Park that the NYC Yangjia Michuan Group participated in. Some of the members who participated, and who are seen in the photos, are Robert Politzer, Charlotte Ehrman, Arnold C. Baker II, and Thomas W. Campbell. We did a demonstration of the Kunlun Sword form. Lou Reed was there, with Laurie Anderson and their cheerful little dog. He was practicing with a Chen Style Taiji group and participated in the Chen Family Sword form.

Here is a link to a document that could be helpful for students who are learning and practicing the 13 postures of the Yang Family Hidden Tradition: 13 postures YMT Introduction .

And a link to a nice video featuring Nicole Henriod, a french YMT teacher, demonstrating the 13 postures of the Yangjia Michuan form.

UPDATED August 16, 2015: Below is a link to Wang Yen-nien demonstrating the first section (first duan) of the Yangjia Michuan Taiji form. It was recorded in Taipei, where he taught and lived. It is said to be from 1987 – it seems like it could be earlier to me. Regardless, it is a valuable view of the form as he taught and practiced it:

UDATED May 13, 2016: And below is a link of George C. Lin, a disciple of Wang Yen-nien. Many members of Robert Politzer’s original class circa 1993-2001 were able to meet and to study with Master Wang in Europe and in the states.

2002 World Taiji Day – NYC Yangjia Michuan Taiji

This was possibly our second year of participation in the World Taiji Day event in Central Park. A lot of the class turned out – and was the only WTD event that Robert had to miss.
Some of those in the photograph include Arnold C. Baker II, John Rapoport, Paul Friedman, Thomas W. Campbell.
Arnold and Thomas are practicing Ba Fa, the fifteenth Tuishou Basic Exercise.

The photos are by Larry Ford, a photographer and YMT student.

1995 – Life in the Little Theater

Here are some early photographs recently scanned that show the 1995 New York City Yang Family Hidden Tradition Taiji class. Much thanks to Gretchen MacLane for pointing out that the photos were taken in 1995, probably during the winter/spring. The location was known as the “little theater”, and is now the main performance theater of the west side YMCA. This was our classroom for a couple of years. It had yet to be renovated and there was a nice little stage that we often practiced on. Members seen in the images include Robert Politzer, Charlie, Mike Stone, James Best, Lisa Birnbaum and, with their backs to us talking to Robert, George Vlachos and Gretchen MacLane. They are practicing section one of the three-part long form.
